Science bubbling water

 This weeks homework is to take a photo of something relating to science and explain why it is science. These are my photos:

These photos both have something to do with science. When you turn on the gas, it will turn into a fire and the fire heats up the stove. If you put the pan on the stove, it will heat the bottom of the metal pan which then becomes really hot. The heat from the fire is passed through and on by the metal of the stove and the pan onto the water. So the captured energy of the gas is changed into heat energy of fire, which is given to the metal and finally heats up the water. If you keep the pan on the stove long enough, the water will come to a boil when it reaches 100 degrees Celsius. It will then begin to bubble a lot. The next step is evaporation-steam! This sort of energy transmission would not work (or not as well as) in pots made up from other materials like wood, or cork.

Science: How Does Light Travel?

1. How fast does light travel?
A. Light travels really fast. Absolutely nothing is as fast as light.

2. How far can light travel in a second?
A. Well, I got a very fast answer. The Answer Is... 299,792 km!! In one second!!

3. What is a light year?
A. A light year is a unit of distance, not time. A light year is a way that astronomers measure distance in space. It is how far a beam of light travels in one year. A distance of six trillion miles.

4. Where can light travel?
A. Only straight. It can't turn corners.

5. Why does light travel?
A. Light is made out of bits called Photons. Each Photon is made out of a big pack of electromagnetic energy. It's made out of energy so it moves!!

Science homework list

Hello,
Last week it was primary science week and we have some homework related to that. We have to make a list and describe the processes of science we do in the daily life.
1. Boiling the kettle - heating and change of state
2. Morning dew - cooling off and change of state
3. Communication between people - sound waves, vibrations through air and your eardrum picks it up
4. Playing the piano - strings in the piano vibrate causing sound waves
5. Take off sweater and hair stands up - static electricity
6. Making a rhythm by striking glasses that are filled up with different amounts of liquid - different air columns causes different sound waves
7. Making ice cream - cooling off, change of state
8. Finding a cooler spot in the room - heating by the sun and shade is cooler because sun can't get there
9. Sun rays through crystal to make rainbows - light is broken in different directions and causes our eyes to see rainbows
10. Drawing silhouettes for art - block sun rays to create shadow of your body outline
11. Seeing a rainbow in the sky - refraction of sun rays
12. Using a mirror to do your hair in the morning - reflection of sunlight
13. Seeing yourself differently in a spoon - concave or convex surface distort images
14. Enjoying looking through a kaleidoscope - light bounces and reflects off objects and mirrors
15. Using a magnifying glass to read small letters - the convex glass bends light rays outward to make the image seem smaller
16. Playing with dominoes and making the tiles fall - potential energy and kinetic energy
17. Making popcorn - heating, change of state, water pressure causes kernel to pop!
18. Magnets on the refrigerator - magnetism
19. Turning mobile - heating causes air to expand or retract (not phone)
20. Worm farm - food scraps rot and get eaten by worms, life cycle, excretion used as fertilizer
